Beacon Bingo gives Cricklewood 102 year-old the perfect birthday surprise

Staff at Beacon Bingo, Cricklewood, wanted to make the 102nd birthday of one of its most loyal customers, Mary Van-Gelder, extra special last weekend [Saturday 19th October], so they threw her a party at the bingo hall she has visited every single week since the club opened 24 years ago.

The Beacon team arranged a bouquet of flowers, bottle of bubbly, a cake, balloons and a surprise party with Mary’s friends, ensuring it was a day to remember.

Commenting on the surprise, Mary said: “It was so wonderful that Stephen and the rest of the staff have put this together to help me celebrate my 102nd birthday. I have made so many friends here at the bingo hall, both other players and the staff, I cannot thank them enough for making this day so special.”

Stephen Young, Cricklewood Beacon Bingo’s manager, said: ““As soon as we found out that it was Mary’s 102nd birthday we knew we just had to get something put together to help her celebrate it! It was a brilliant night and Mary was smiling the whole way through. She was so surprised with the party we had set out for her!”

“Bingo clubs like the one here in Cricklewood play an important role in the lives of a lot of people, many of who love the social aspect of coming out to play Bingo – and we love it too. So many of our customers are great friends and our staff are proud to call a lot of our regular customers friends as well. Therefore, celebrating Mary’s big birthday was important for everyone involved with Beacon Bingo here in Cricklewood.”
